Joel Quintanilla
Joel founded Astera and leads its day-to-day operations, growth strategy, service development, and client experience.
Born in Dallas and raised in the surrounding DFW suburbs, Joel grew up with deep roots in Texas. He moved to Austin in 2010 to attend The University of Texas before spending five years away serving as a U.S. Army officer and becoming an Airborne Ranger. When he returned in 2019, he was ready to put down roots and build a life in Austin with his wife.
While earning his MBA and working in technology consulting, Joel saw how much difference it made when someone remained involved after a project was completed. Clear guidance, continued support, and an accountable point of contact could determine whether a transition felt seamless or whether people were left to start over on their own. It was a lesson that would soon become personal.
After Joel and his wife purchased their first home, they encountered many of the challenges that come with homeownership—learning how the home worked, recognizing what required attention, and knowing who to call when something went wrong. What made their experience different was the continued guidance of Alan Avery, who happened to be both their builder and next-door neighbor.
Alan remained available long after closing. He could answer a question by text, explain how something had been built, or connect them with a trusted professional when work was needed. His guidance removed much of the uncertainty homeowners typically face and showed Joel the value of having an experienced, dependable resource who already understood the home.
That relationship helped inspire Astera. Joel and Alan saw an opportunity to provide every homeowner with that same continuity: informed guidance, trusted recommendations, and a reliable point of contact who remains involved after the keys are handed over.
